Posted by: profpat  /  Category: Skydiving/parachuting

Because Skydiving and Parachuting are now considered more of a sport than just a recreational activity, there are several disciplines that call for both recreational and competitive events. Among the other disciplines are formation skydiving, sky surfing, free fall skydiving, paraski, canopy formation and BASE skydiving.

In order to see what the Best of Skydiving teams doing their stuff, I have included a video in this post. Just watching this video gives me a rush. I can feel the excitement. It is easy to understand why people do this. Wow!

Of course, let me caution you. Before any jump, you must make sure that you have the proper equipment and training that you need. Examine your gear. Check them for any problems. Sometimes trained riggers do the packing of the parachute. Most people pack a second chute as back-up in case the main chute fails to open.

You must also learn the sport well. Look for skydiving facilities in your area and ask a trainer to teach you. You can join a skydiving club or organization in your area. You can also look at some listings of professional skydivers and see if anyone can train you.

Enjoy the video!

Here is a quick one that really shows extreme skydiving:

Learn How Martial Arts Helps 2 Ways–Fitness and Defense

Extreme Martial Arts

Extreme Martial Arts

When trying to decide which form of martial arts style you wish to learn, there are factors that you should consider before doing so. No matter what style or form you choose, martial arts are a great thing to learn. No matter where you decide to go in life, self discipline and self defense as well as many other traits can be learned through martial arts as well.

Martial Arts for Fitness

Your fitness level is not the main goal of martial arts. Martial arts can improve your fitness level. There are styles of martial arts that do not involve a lot of physical fitness training, but are based purely on martial arts such as Tae-Bo. If you are interested in fitness training, then martial arts isn?t really for you.

Martial Arts for Fighting Ability

When looking for a school that teaches different fighting styles there are many different martial arts to choose from. Teaching everything you need to survive, many self defense schools take advantage of fighting skills. Teaching forms, movements, and kata are what most martial arts schools teach. Schools of self defense teach the methods of  inflicting vast amounts of damage in a small amount of time.

Martial Arts for Competition

Martial arts vary widely, and may focus on a specific area or combination of areas, but they can be broadly grouped into focusing on strikes, grappling, or weapons training. Competition martial arts are based upon showing off your skills in your chosen form of martial arts and taking home trophies.  When choosing your competition you must decide what aspect of martial arts you are competing in, whether it be light or heavy contact, grappling and striking focus, or kata.

It is important that you conduct research to choose the best school or dojo in your area in which to train. It is a good idea to see what is available to you. Discounts or a few free classes may be offered by some of the better schools in your area. These schools will be more than happy to help you to select the best school to meet your objectives by answering any questions that you have to help you learn as much as you can about martial arts.

Thrillseekers! How about Taking a Bungee Jumping Trip?

Posted by: profpat  /  Category: Bunjy Jumping

If you are not a thrillseeker, these trips may not interest you. Maybe you have never heard of bungee (sometimes bunjy or bungy) jumping. Bungee jumping is an activity in which a person jumps off from a high place (generally of several hundred feet/meters) with one end of an elastic cord attached to his/her body or ankles and the other end tied to the jumping-off point. When the person jumps, the cord will stretch to take up the energy of the fall, then the jumper will fly upwards as the cord snaps back. The jumper bounces up and down until the initial energy of the jump is dissipated.

Now does that sound like something you would like to try? This sport takes place all over the world. Would you like to have some ideas where you can go to combine your favorite sport of bungee jumping with a wonderful vacation trip?

Pucon, Chile

If you are one of the most extreme thrill-seekers, you may like the idea of bungy jumping to the top of an active volcano. Located in Pucon, Chile, you can bungy jump from a helicopter to within seven hundred feet from the molten lava. You will, of course, be accompanied in the helicopter by both a trained bungy jumping professional and a photographer. To add to the excitement, this trip includes traveling thirty-five miles to the volcano at high speed and high altitude while on the outside of the helicopter. This would certainly be an unforgettable initiation into the sport of bungy jumping.

United Kingdom

Here they have gotten together 4 exciting jumps. First is the crane jump at a height of 165 feet. Next is travel to the world’s only indoor Bungee jump in Sheffield to experience the Abyss at a height of 150ft. The semi darkness coupled with music, dry ice and video screens means this is no walk in the park. The next exciting jump is at Middlesbrough where you will be able to jump from the only Bridge Bungee in the UK. The Transporter bridge in Middlesbrough Towers is
225 ft, making this a superexciting bungee jump. You will jump directly over the water where a waiting speed boat plucks you from the air to bring you back to shore. The next jump is the big one at Datchet near Heathrow Airport where you will experience the highest jump available in the UK–a 300 foot of pure adrenalin with 4 seconds of freefall. This is the ultimate Bungee experience and will tame the hardest of adrenalin addicts.

Normandy in France
Maybe you would prefer France instead. The world leader in Bungee Jumping AJ Hacket has planned a one day trip to one of the most intense experiences in Normandy where you can have the entire Bungee Jump Center to yourself. A choice is offered to you when you arrive at the top of the 61 meter high platform on an old railway viaduct (designed by the Eiffel Tower architect). You may go for the classic, crazy, or extreme jump either solo or tandem. Also available as a part of this fun day is a 400 meter long zipper wire that reaches speeds of up to 100 km/h (over 60 mph). Many other thrills have been added using zipper wires and rope bridges to overcome all the different obstacles on this 1-2 hour course through the trees. How about a day in France with a difference?

Fiji Islands

Are these trips thrilling enough for you? If not we have one in Fiji where you can bungee jump on the Coral Coast followed by many other extreme sports such as scuba diving, snorkeling, reef fishing, river rafting, sea kayaking, surfing, jet skiing, water skiing, sailing, windsurfing, hiking or horse back riding.

Krugersdorp Gauteng South Africa

South Africa also offers bungee jumping weekends at Krugersdorp, Gauteng.

Great Canadian Bungee Jumping

We have the Great Canadian Bungee Jumping where you can experience North America’s highest bungee jump. The Discovery Channel rated this jump among its top 5. You are offered the choice of stay dry or get wet depending on your choice of ankle or body harness. This adventure is located in the beautiful Gatineau Park.

Northern California

Perhaps your preference leans more toward a great bungy jumping experience without the death-defying risks, if so, you might like to try the sport in California’s Angeles National Forest. Icarus Bungee jumps from 15 different bridges in Northern California. In thirteen years of business, Bungee America’s jumpers have not had any injuries, and has an excellent safety record. Bungy jumping is done from a ten-stories-high bridge. You will be able to do front-flips, back-flips, back dive, front dive, or the elevator drop; and you can choose between one and five jumps.

Australia

Australia is also in on this craze as it turns into an adventurer’s hub. Many bungee jumpers head to tropical North Queensland, Australia to enjoy their sport of bungee jumping. The ‘Bungee Bullet’ in Australia is one of the 10 popular Bungee destinations in the world today. Located on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, the Bungee Bullet is actually a reverse bungee. Strap yourself into the dual-seat contraption and get shot 164 feet into the air in one second flat. Although many bungee veterans will say that this isn’t the true sport, it is quite an exhilarating experience and an unforgettable experience for those having done it. If you also wish to try out your adventurous side, join the group Bungee Jumping in Australia.

Okay, so the idea of throwing yourself off a high tower towards a shallow pool with a giant rubber band attached to your ankles is as scary as hell to you and you do not consider this the vacation for you. Eventhough bungee jumping raises the hairs on people’s backs, there is a steady and steep increase in the number of people who are experiencing this wondrous extreme sport every year. It’s all about the fear factor. Bungee jumping for some people is about
pushing your limits, challenging your mind and body, and simply being able to say, “I did it!”

Kayaking for End of Summer Fun

Posted by: profpat  /  Category: Canoeing, Kayaking

Mono Lake Winter PaddlingAre you ready to plan a trip so that you can get some end of summer fun in before it gets too cold? Kayaking or canoeing may just be the perfect outdoor recreation for you. One day kayaking adventure trips are the easiest trips to arrange. They can vary in length from a mile to 25 miles depending on water conditions and the weather. It also depends on where you are kayaking. In slow-moving rivers or streams, you travel at a much slower rate, as little as 2 miles an hour. If the river is faster-flowing, then your speed will pick up, often doubling. If you are not accustomed to kayaking regularly, both are physically demanding.

There is essentially little or no difference between canoeing and kayaking. The best approach to experiencing the excitement of canoeing and kayaking is to scout out guided tours. Many tour companies will provide a kayak, paddle, personal flotation device and a tour guide. Unless you plan to visit the lake several times, there is no need to purchase your own canoeing or kayaking equipment. Purchasing your own equipment can rack up quite a large bill, as canoes generally run $800 or higher, and that does not include the other equipment needed such as paddles and clothing. You can look for canoeing and kayaking tours locally or in other parts of the country, depending on your desire to travel.

Straight-talk about Selecting Your Bow

Compound bows come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and levels of sophistication. No doubt the modern compound bow is a fantastic hunting weapon, but you have to remember that the compound bow is still a relatively simple device. The compound bow is constructed from readily available materials; it has only a handful of moving parts; and it isn’t yet micro-processor controlled. Does this sound very “high tech” to you?

Most bow manufacturers design their marketing campaigns to market their bows as a “high technology” product. So you may ask–why do they do this? Because the manufacturers know that bowhunters want a “high-technology” product that will give them an edge. They stretch the truth to make it appear that their products offers a technological advantage in order to improve the bowhunter’s success rate which is notoriously low. It may also be that consumers of outdoor products like scientific words and fancy acronyms. To borrow a quote “Your new compound bow could be packaged with a few Ultra-Lite Hyperpolyresin fibers of CBT (cock-n-bull technology).*

It is really not accurate or appropriate to say that there is a bow that is best for everyone. There are many other high quality brands and models from which to choose. Commonsense should tell you that the bow that is best for you is the bow that best fits your purpose, your size and strength, your shooting style, your skill level, and of course your budget.
